Frequently asked questions
When should a puppy get its first grooming?
Introducing puppies to grooming at an early age is essential for their comfort and well-being as they grow. By familiarising them with the various sensations, smells, and sounds associated with grooming. The ideal time to commence this process is about two weeks after a puppy has received its final vaccination, ensuring that they are both healthy and ready for the experience.
How often should a dog be groomed?
The frequency of dog grooming can depend on various factors, making it essential to consider the specific needs of each dog. As a general guideline, most dogs should be groomed every six to eight weeks to maintain their coat and overall hygiene. However, long-haired dogs or short-hair breeds that spend a lot of time outside may require more frequent grooming sessions.
How often do dogs need their nails trimmed?
Many pet owners overlook the importance of regular nail trims. When nails become overgrown, it can be painful for your pet to walk. Long nails can also impact your dog’s posture and gait and can contribute to inflammation in the joints. In time, long nails can split or curl into the dog’s skin or paw pads, resulting in pain and infection. To prevent these issues, aim to trim your dog’s nails approximately every three to four weeks. Dogs that spend a lot of time walking on pavement may require less frequent nail trims as their nails will wear down naturally.
Why is dog grooming important?
Dog grooming is important for more than just aesthetics alone. Proper grooming can help combat shedding, prevent bacteria from spreading through your home, and help keep long-haired dogs cool and comfortable. Grooming also promotes healthy nails, skin, and teeth, and can serve as a way for pet owners to identify lumps, rashes, dental problems, or other health issues a dog may be experiencing.
How long does professional dog grooming take?
If you bring your dog to a professional groomer, you should know that the grooming process can be quite lengthy. Professional grooming sessions often range from one to four hours on average, with larger dogs or dogs with long hair requiring more time than short-haired breeds. It’s important not to rush the grooming process to avoid risking injury to your pet.
Should my dog be vaccinated, wormed and up to date with flea treatments before a grooming appointment?
Ideally Yes, all dogs must be up to date on vaccinations, worming and flea treatments. Simparica Trio is recommended and used in the salon upon request and additional charges will apply
Can I stay and watch my dog being groomed?
For the safety and comfort of all dogs during their grooming sessions, we generally discourage pet parents from staying. The grooming area is quite a small space, and having additional people can create distractions that may stress out the dog. Additionally, insurance policies do not cover any incidents that may occur if pet parents are present, leaving them vulnerable in case of any accidents. My priority is to ensure a calm and safe environment for your furry friends, allowing me to focus fully on their care. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping me maintain a peaceful grooming experience for every dog.
How will I know when my dog is ready for pick-up?
You will receive a text message 30 minutes prior to pick up notifying you, your dog is ready for pick-up.
Why does my dog seem tired after grooming?
Grooming can be physically and mentally stimulating. It’s common for dogs to be tired afterward due to handling, bath time, and being alert during the grooming process.
Do you pick up and drop off pets for grooming appointments?
Yes, we offer a pick-up and drop-off service for your convenience. Additional fees apply.
Should I shave my dog during the summer to keep them cool?
In most cases, shaving is not necessary. I can help find the best grooming style that keeps your dog comfortable during hotter months.
What if my dog has mats or tangles in their coat?
I handle matted coats carefully. Additional fees may apply for mat removal, and if the coat is severely matted, shaving may be required.
Can I book a grooming appointment specifically for my senior or health-compromised dog?
Yes, as most of the grooming appointments are one on one this is perfect for dogs with senior and health-compromised dogs, ensuring their comfort throughout the session. A Waiver in salon must be signed upon drop off.
Terms and Conditions
Welcome to Furesh Furs Grooming Salon!
These terms and conditions (the "Terms and Conditions") govern the use of www.fureshfursgrooming.com.au (the "Site"). This Site is owned and operated by Stephaine Roebuck. This Site is an ecommerce booking website. Any reference to “we”, “our” or “us” in these Terms and Conditions includes Furesh Furs Grooming.
By using this Site, you indicate that you have read and understand these Terms and Conditions and agree to abide by them at all times.
Vaccination and Worming: It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure their dog is vaccinated and wormed. Puppies must have received their C5 vaccination 14 days prior to attending the salon. Proof of vaccination is required for all puppies less than 6mths old. We have strict cleaning protocols in place to reduce the risk of spreading disease. Furesh Furs Grooming will not be liable for any related costs due to illness in unvaccinated dogs.
Safety & Welfare: Grooming can be a stressful experience for some dogs. To help us ensure the safety and welfare of the dog, the owner (or authorised person) must inform the salon staff of the following:
if the dog has a heart condition or a pre-existing medical condition, illness or injury.
If the dog is recovering from a recent surgery or taking medications.
If the dog is under any form of sedation or anti-anxiety medication. Or/if sedation is required, the customer will be referred to a vet clinic.
If we determine that continuing the grooming service would present a threat to your dog's emotional or physical health the service will be discontinued.
Dogs that display aggression towards the groomer, a muzzle will be used if deemed necessary. Owners may be asked to collect their dog if they present a safety risk to me, other animals or themselves.
Animal Safety: We allow an open salon to allow dogs to socialise, stretch and play. We ask owners to please notify the salon team if they would like their dog isolated from other animals in the salon. At the discretion of the salon dogs may be crated, tethered or separated for the protection of themselves and other animals within the salon. Dogs that display aggression towards the groomer or other dogs will be separated and muzzles used if deemed necessary. Owners may be asked to collect their dog if they present a risk to team members, other animals or themselves. Please note we do prefer to use crates as a last resort.
Matting: It is not uncommon to find pre-existing conditions such as hot spots, sores and other skin issues once the matted coat is removed. There is also a chance that your dog’s skin may become irritated from clipping so close due to matting and could be accidentally cut in the process. The procedure takes extreme care and extra time, due to this there will be additional charges depending on the severity of the matting.
Health: In the unlikely event that veterinary treatment is required which has an imminent impact on a dog’s health, the owner gives consent for this establishment to seek treatment for the dog at the closest local veterinary clinic. The owner will be contacted as soon as possible to advise of any incident or condition noticed or occurring during the service. The service will not be completed until either; the owner is contacted and permission to continue is granted or consent obtained and recorded for veterinary assessment, with the owners aware of any costs that may be involved. We will not be liable for any vet related costs due to health issues arising from:
Pre-existing medical conditions
Matted coats which may result in;
Clipper rash
Exposing pre-existing hot spots and sores
Late Collection fees: Additional charges may be incurred for the late collection of the dog. The owner must notify the salon team if they are unable to collect on agreed time. Charges from $15 per 15 mins will be incurred where after hours care is required. In the event the dog is uncollected by close of business and contact cannot be made with the owner or the emergency contact, the local council will be contacted to arrange collection.
Cancellation and Appointment times: The customer must notify the salon at least 48 hours before the appointment date to advise of a cancellation. Cancellations can be made by contacting the salon by phone or if booked online via the cancellation link in the confirmation email. Due to limited availability customers should contact the salon if running more than 15 minutes late for their appointment as it may need to be rescheduled if the service cannot be completed in the required time. If the booking is not cancelled and the owner does not attend their booked appointment, they may be asked to prepay/or deposit before any future appointments will be taken.
